This one was in a pot for about 10 years, semi shade and out of wind. I then put it in the ground 10 yrs later and it didn't seem to mind. again semi shade out of wind. it does really well getting bigger every year by a little bit. it produces lots of berries too.

Ah...that must be it then...the wind.

Do you get greenfinches eating the berries? They never lasted long on my Mum's bush.

A plant worth its weight in gold, just for the scent!! we have two variegated ones, very sheltered, slow growing, plenty of buds so far!

Like Cottagekaren I have failed miserably with this Daphne but one day I hope to find a place where it will grow. I have succeeded with Daphne retusa in a planter in one of the windiest places in the garden.

They seem to like their feet in shade and their crown in sun if that's any help.

lots of birds feed on the berries they are usually stripped off by October.

That must be why ours are doing so well, makes a change for me to put a plant in the right place first time!!
