I wondered that Derek , did you watch a programme recently where they experimented in making and flying a plane in exactly the same way as it was thought to have been done ... I was amazed at how much freedom the prisoners had around the castle ...

Hi Amy, no I didn't see that programme, but I have seen pictures of it before, and the terrain looks very similar.
I imagine they hada certain amount of freedom to move about inside the castle, as they had nowhere to go outside without getting caught and probably shot, Derek.

True Derek , It was an amazing plan and to have so many talented prisoners to take on the various tasks , they even took the book on how to build a glider from the prison library ...

This castle is Sovinec, in eastern Bohemia. From 19th century until the World War II, Sovinec became the summer seat of the Templar Order. Its museum contained mostly military objects and its library counted more than 20.000 volumes.
The Nazis confiscated Sovinec as church property. It was turned into a prison and since 1940 a number of French prisoners of war and antifascists were kept there. A special group of SS had its seat in Sovinec, and hermetically sealed the castle from the outside.
In the first days of May 1945 the castle burned down.

Hi Katarina, wrong again then, to be honest I've never heard of it, but sounds very interesting, Derek.
