according to the books yes if it is given some shelter. The lady who grew it has a much more exposed garden then mine and she is about 15 miles away from me.

A small fernery somewhere shady, with a stumpery?
7 Feb, 2017
certainly a fernery but not stumps as Honey fungus inhabits some of the garden. I have one of the seven species and fortunately it is the one that finishes off old/dying trees rather than actively invading and destroying young healthy ones. I sent specimens of a 55yr old silver birch to the RHS so they could tell me why it was dying. that's what they told me. 55 is typical for birch.

I had no idea there were that many species of honey fungus, it is something I live in fear of!!

To be honest it doesn't bother me other than what shrubs I can plant that are tolerant of HF and like my chalky soil.

Unlucky you with the Honey Fingus. A synthetic stump then?

Oh Siris - with a wreath of plastic ivy round it....

Now ladies I wont need plastic ivy though at least that wouldn't need weeding out as it wont get out of hand ;o)

You jest, Stera. I have a couple of material orchids, which I stick in my Cymbidium pots when they are not in flower. They did originally look quite realistic, but now rather faded with a touch of mould.

I just thought the ivy would be the very thing to cover your plastic stump suggestion Siris...lol. Looks like time for some more of those orchids too!
