Libertia peregrinans (New Zealand Iris)

Libertia peregrinans (New Zealand Iris) (Libertia peregrinans (New Zealand Iris))

This has been in a pot since 2015 and is now showing plantlets around the edges. Should I transfer the mother plant to the ground now or leave it be?

Shirley this one is a spreader.......our Libertia are all in the ground, I would plant the large one, and pot up the small ones, Peter has just planted up all the babies......to sell on open day!

Dotty, this one was bought from a local garden on the village open day! I shall do just what you suggest ... not today though as it's so foggy I can barely see the back garden fence ... :o(

Does Libertia flower?

Karen, the RHS state that it has panicles of saucer-shaped white or blue flowers, followed by orange seed capsules. My specimen is young and I have not seen any flowers yet! Angela may know more . . . . .

Shirley, my plain green L. grandiflora flowers profusely, 28th May last year, but it would fill that pot, it's that large.

Sounds lovely Siris ... :o)

The green doesn't seem to run, just clumps up thickly. For that reason never bothered to take seed.

Thank you! :)

I agree with DottyD . . my 'gold' Libertia is happy in the ground, but hasn't spread, whereas I have green ones EVERYWHERE :)

I have taken out seven baby ones today, potted them up and left the larger original one in the pot. My plan is to plant the babies, when they've grown bigger, into the front gravel garden. Just have to wait a while!
