Another cool needy orchid good for my climate. This is the most common purple. They have a wide range and I do have another orange and had a yellow..that seemed to have disappeared one year...
Not inexpensive so you can imagine wha the costs of the rarer species are. The SF botanical garden devotes a whole greenhouse to these plants. Sometimes called Dracula Orchids.

Thanks Andy..I had a yellow- gone,taken- and an orange that came within a millimeter of death. Taking years to nurse it back.
Potted plant collections only take one hot day and forget to water something...

Yes, I know that feeling "only takes one hot day and forget to water". I lost all the fronds off my Blechnum gibbum (Dwarf tree fern) back in October of last year (during a heat wave). I thought it was dead. It now has some new beautiful fronds coming back over the last few months. Yay! (I killed so many in the SF Bay Area in pots by forgetting to water them, just once!).

I've had one or two of these Stan, in the past, but I can never get them to re-flower.

They have limited range Waddy. It cant be too cold, hot, dry, dark or too sunny. Either a greenhouse or just the right climate. They are tropical cloudforest plants. Most of those adapt well to our mild summer climates.
