My favorite..does best in the bay area then any other Plumeria. Its going to be the last one standing.
My brother in law sent some Plumeria cuttings from south florida to me. The are still dormant there. I was shocked to think its April and Plumeria are just budding- if that- near Miami.

It has to do with the variety. Some varieties will keep almost all their leaves through winter...then drop them briefly before going back into growth. Some around my neighborhood and around down are further along than this one. April is when I see the first flowers on some trees. Plumerias are so, so very common here in San Diego. I see many dozens of trees on my way to work. They are so common because of their drought-tolerance; however, I have seen some varieties suffer in this past drought. I had some even die.

My Plumeria 'Plastic Pink' in the back yard just lost all its leaves about a month ago. It wont start putting out leave until late April. I see growth on Samoan Fluff, Aztec Gold, Celadine, Hilo Beauty, Pink Pastel and Thai. Another unknown pink variety and Tomlinson haven't started growth yet.

Wow! That's a small cutting. Typically you want a cutting at least 18" the preferred size is 3 - 6' they root the best in the ground...then you can dig them out and put them in a pot.

Red is the most difficult Plumeria to start from cuttings. I think it's because they need a tremendous amount of heat.
