Replacement Cistus (for my file)

Replacement Cistus (for my file) (Cistus incanum creticus)

Replacement Cistus from a cutting to replace the straggly old one. Just have to bit the bullet and remove the old...just! But taking out the old will leave a bare fence panel, a new opportunity?

How nice reminds me of crape paper .

It is a perfect partner for that Cotinus. I know what you mean....I have three big ones that really will need to be replaced either next year or the following. They aren't attractive when they get old...poor things. :) Easy from cuttings though and yes...new opportunities.

I wonder with what to replace the old Cistus, when I replace. The soil is so dry in its east facing border, because it is not very wide being bounded by a preformed pond.
Has to be Evergreen..... A Ceanothus maybe.

That would be lovely. I love ceanothus, but I just cannot grow them here....its too windy and cold for them.

Pineapple Broom?

Karen, yes a Pineapple Broom but the replacement needs to hug the fence, or be a climber. Maybe a Coronilla valentina glauca, but that is only to 1m. Or my Sunshine bush (Brachyglottis) renewing.

Passion flower?

Sorry...evergreen you said. Fatshedera? Berberidopsis Corralina? My climbing rose Iceberg has been evergreen this year...in a North facing spot. Evergreen Clematis armandii?

Plenty of suggestions there ,Karen. Got a Passion flower further down that fence, rampant beast, a Clematis viticulture Mme Julia correvon (not evergreen), cutting of Mermaid Rose, quite rampant, a Rosa Guinea. Noticed today I have already put a second cutting of Cistus slightly to the left of the one to come out. Dotty d, says she has never seen so many plants stuffed into a small space. No wonder the soil is so dry! Thank you for your thoughts.K.

It is true I really have not, that cistus is a pretty little thing....

Dd, the Cistus to be replaced is over 6ft tall, that is topping the fence panel, with a bare midriff.
