It's planted right beside the conifer hedge where the soil is a little acidic. The rest of the garden soil is more towards alkaline. That's why I have to keep my azaleas and rhododendrons in pots of ericacious compost.

I thought you might it was just a thought I got an Azealea they have made into a small standard as when you make them a standard all the growth goes to the top making more flowers but if your stem is nt tough best leave it like you said Homebird.

That's the one that takes over whole hillsides, tho' I'm sure it will be ok to just have one in your garden, :-)
