Close-up of the flowers. This is one of only a few azaleas that are cold-hardy where I live. There are a few others that will grow here but the cold winter temps usually kill the flower buds.

It's only the bad winters that kill them and it seems like we have a couple mild winters followed by a brutal one. These Northern Lights azaleas flower every year so that's nice but I haven't found another type of azalea that's anywhere near as reliable.
