Such striking plants, what a smell. Are they monocarpic though. I have lots of small ones around the original which has disappeared.

They are not monocarpic, but the RHS Encyclopaedia says 'not reliably hardy.' As for the smell, there were flies buzzing around it when I took the photograph.

Thanks for the info, Andrew. I never let mine seed as when the smell got too bad, put a large polybag over it to contain, then chopped off the developing seeds.

Well I never, I saw some of these growing in Preston Rock Garden near Brighton (Sussex) this morning and had no idea what they were. Now I know!
