Hollyhocks (Alcea biennis)

I am not going to grow Hollyhocks next year. They take up too much room, suffer from rust, and have almost been blown over in the recent winds,

These are beautiful. I am growing a few, not quite flowering yet, but the rust has been a problem. I've been pulling off the lower leaves as they get affected, as I don't like spraying with chemicals, but some have very few leaves left! I'll saw that on gardeners world as well, about rust free ones becoming available, so they might be worth looking out for.

Yes, I saw that! And I was very pleased because I love Hollyhocks. They just remind me of stately Elizabethan houses and sunshine! :)

If I remember right...they were called the 'Halo Series'.

Thanks everyone, I saw about the rust free ones. All tall perennials are cut off the lower leaves so that they don't restrict light to the smaller surrounding plants.
Karen too little space in this early Elizabethan 2nd bungalow!!!!

Love them.....but hate the rust, gave up with them, they grow in France with no attention and no rust in Talmont.!!

The seed of these came from my brother's in France. They didn't have rust when in flower.
