Metrosideros excelsa

The tree is about 80 ft tall, and this is one of the lower flower clusters. It attracts lots of bees. The tree is useful as a wind break and can be trimmed to be compact. The downside: here, the seeds readily sprout and the roots travel a long distance and can break stone walls. But as the flowers die, the ground becomes covered in red.

It is also known as the New Zealand Christmas Tree, so only 6 more months to Christmas. It is on a middle terrace, so I can either look way up or get closer to the top on the upper terrace.

It will be just a plain tree in December. New Zealand is in the other hemisphere, so it looks great down there for Christmas.

What a shame you could always have Christmas early then have another in 6 months lol.
