This just makes me want to expand my summer bulb collection. If it turns out to be as fertile as Tigridia chiapensis is, I should have seeds to expand the number of bulbs I have. T. chiapensis self pollenated, and I have 2 pods of that ripening, so hopefully the same here.

What a great idea to extend your bulb collection I shall look forward to seeing your T. chiapensis lets hope Tigridia vanhouttei is as fertile for you fingers crossed.☺

You can see the similarities between T. chiapensis, T. vanhouttei, and the one most often seen, T. pavonia (which is also called Mexican Shell Flower). There are 30 types of Tigridia and they all share one sad trait: they don't last more than a single day. But today, there is another flower open of T. vanhouttei.

Yes you can see similarities . To be honest Wylie I ve never noticed they only last one day of flowering I hall now watch carefully out for mine to flower..

I am used to just one day flowers having daylilies and Moraeas. Ferraria had the same thing happen.

Yes of course you are use to it with the daylilys . I re checked Moraeas out stunning are nt they I seen seeds for sale with a wonder orange one the centre was fantastic.

You probably saw M. tulbaghensis.
Seeds can be easy to start. Because I have the growing season they like, I put the seeds into little pots. The seeds are either small like a cabbage seed or extremely small. Then I put them outside in a protected area and wait for them to sprout in about 30 days. Timing is important: either mid to late September for those that are winter growing and March for summer growing. No frost, however.

Yes Wylie thats the one is nt it lovely.

Perhaps the seeds would grow here in an incubator .
Yes you would have the best weather conditions there thank you on how you plant yours up with instructions.
