English home transported to California...part2.

You don't see many like this over here it lovely.

They call these "Storybook homes". They include the Art Deco and Fake adobe and English Tudor. Very expensive homes always in demand. A high percentage of these homes are immaculate.
I saw one street island there as I drove and all the neighbors were tending and weeding the Roses planted in it. Even some elderly in wheelchairs.
My brother used to live close by. His house and street had the same name. A heritage home of some kind. Everything in oak timbers overhead,balcony's, sunroom.

How interesting I ve never heard them called that the Welsh built most of their furniture out of the old English oak hard wearing.
I can imagine you do Stan I can never understand why Americans build their homes out of ply watching programs from the USA how they rot here our homes are made of red brick or stone or pebble dash like the house in your photo the new houses here in my city are being built like you Americans build but faced with red brick which tells us they wont be long standing here. My house is red brick. Occationally you will see wooden houses

I ve noticed in my cousins and Auntys house in Australia they build the same as the Americans I can understand if the area is prone to earth quakes .

Brick is dangerous in California. Only used waist high,and even then as a veneer to the wood behind it. Earthquakes make quick work of brick and mortar.
Penny- that house above style isnt seen much in the UK? Huh,its called English Tudor and I grew up thinking thats what a typical English home was like.
These were all built in the 1930's. They also are called ( my brothers too) Craftsman. THOSE are RED HOT..the style is wanted all across the country and here in California are the most to be seen. Loved the small cut glass windows as you go up the stairs..my brother's had that.
When these homes come up for sale- its a bidding war and can be double the asking prices. As is!

Yes I can understand California not having brick and mortar with the earth quakes Stan . Awe I would of to Stan when they call it English Tudor bit miss leading really. Interesting of my brothers craftsmen were they from the UK originally these craftsmen I wonder. I can well imagine they are red hot and pricey as they are not the norm building in the USA are they like here prices rise on area how big mainly how much land land is the thing over here where it boosts the price.

Craftsman according to Wiki was a reaction to mass production of homes as boxes..like mine-lol. Its all the details and nooks and crannys in those homes people love.
I've wanted one since I was a kid. They were fun homes to visit. Looking through tiny windows and story book balconys,what more could a kid ask?

Wiki also mentions the homes as a "Socialist" statement. Well,as they sell for a million $ and up,that's changed to capitalist all the way..ha.

Yes I can understand your dream as a child to have one of these what happened that you did nt buy one. Interesting they were built in a reaction to box shaped homes . One like this house would nt cost millions here I know of quite a few like thus here one use to belong to the church a few miles way by where I use to live. Over here if you buy a house thats pebble dash or rendered like the one above you could not re mortgage it and it does value much it has to be red brick to gain proffit or re mortgage I ve been informed.
