It looks like a perennial sunflower. I had one once but had to get rid of it because it became too big.

Lol, Hywel, I've got a lot of empty spaces in my front gardenand not a lot of colour other then green, what I loved was it's size and wow of colour. I took photos of in and went into the garden centre but there was only a Saturday girl there and she had no idea what it was.

I am same as Hywel...had to remove mine as it got far too big. I'm still removing the shoots every year. How about Inula, Rudbeckia or Helenium. They all come in lovely yellow forms.

Thank you Karen, maybe need to rethink that one then :-). I grew from seed some Redbeckia rustic dwarf this year for some colour in front of some borders. I loved the height and mass of colour of this plant. At moment front garden is mainly spring flowering shrubs and I want to introduce some summer colour. Going to David Austins nursey Thursday so hoping to get a couple of climbing roses so that should help. After spending so much time clearing quite a few invasive plants I don't that want to put more in. Thanks again Karen.

I was like Karen now ... removing shoots for years after I dug it up. It was a real nuisance.
I live in a different house now and glad I haven't got it to contend with any more.
I'd look for an alternative like Karen suggests.

I think its a lovely plant, looks a lot like my Helianthus Lemon Queen ( Light yellow, daisy-like flowers, set against rich, dark-green foliage on tall, straight stems, appear in abundance on this beautiful plant for many months. A wonderful addition at the back of the bed and great for flower arrangements). Divide clump to maintain vigour.
I don't think its Rudbeckia as the centre isn't cone shaped.

No, it isnt GF...I was suggesting rudbeckia as an alternative to growing this as Lemon Queen is beautiful, but it can also be rampant and its very big. I have a lovely Rudbeckia deamii which might be a nice alternative. But of course, if you have plenty of space and need height, then Lemon Queen can be a great plant.
