You have some lovely shape trees out there shame its finished flowering I bet the Apricot flowers would be a sight to see.

Yes, Tipu tree is extremely common. It's widely planted along freeways and everywhere else.

We had a few little thunderstorms from the monsoonal flow. Usually, the clouds stay over the deserts and mountains. We usually just get the heat and humidity from the monsoonal flow.

Fremont has planted some of those. San Jose has a few too..must be fast growing. There are for big yards.
Andy- if you can,take some pics of Peltaphorums and Golden Cassia's. I think they will grow in the bay area,.but never see them.

I know there's some at the San Jose Airport that were planted many years ago. It's a very hardy tree. I'm not sure why there isn't more planted up there.

Peltophorum pterocarpum are not in flower here, yet. They flower later on in summer. Cassia leptophylla (Gold Medallion Tree) have been flowering for more than a month. I took a pic in La Jolla of all the flowering street trees and they all come up on GoY upside down. I'll get more soon. It's a very common street tree all around SD.

I planted a Cassia leptophylla around 1988 or maybe earlier in the ground at an apartment when I lived in Hayward. It's still there (I last saw it on June 2015). It's on Oakview across from Tommy's Donuts.(it can be seen from Mission Blvd) It lived through the 1990 freeze completely unfazed. It didn't even have a tiny bit of die-back. (which was very surprising).
There's some nice C. leptophylla in San Jose, also.

I'm going to need the address Andy..I google mapped Oakview..but I'm not seeing the Cassia. Or,I see it and don't recognize it as one.

Hey! I was using Google..and on Prospect St.I see a young Foxtail palm. With a Wollemi,Monkey Puzzle and a couple of Silk Floss trees. They guy even had Dioons in pots by the front door.
Exotic by Hayward standards.

I can't see it on Google Maps. It's in the back of the triplex in the backyard. It's 1165 Oakview Ave. 954541. It only shows the front of the triplex. I like Google maps for directions...however, you miss a lot trying to find plants.

Last time I saw it was back in June of 2015. It was flowering, also.

I can try and drive by one day soon. Thanks. Hey,Im about to post the house on Prospect. Wow- big homes. Its on a hill..so very few frosts. I found the very first Foxtail. I knew it could take out cold..but would they grow on our summers? This one has a few feet of trunk..looks a bit water deprived this year. Might be a new owner.

I would be interested to know if the Cassia leptophylla is still there.

I had a foxtail palm in Fremont. It grew very well for me.
