Even my own seedling fairs better than orange dream
It would be nice to here if other Goyers experience the same problem with it

Dawn yes most germinate in one area of the garden where a fairly tall 10 ft Acer has been for many years leaves are quite small but nicely coloured spring and autumn directly below is a green disectum again many years old with a spread of about 6ft it produces many seed which seem to be pollinated from the one above, although many germinate where they fall only a few come through the first winter and if I lift them in the first year they die anyway,so just a few keep growing.

Waddy
If they are on there own roots they are usually inexpensive and quite small ,it better to buy one larger grafted one( you can normally see the union just above ground level)these will normally have a much better root system to keep them growing ,it is not unlike rose trees they are grafted onto stronger root stock .

Interesting Brian - I shall go and search for seedlings under my 'dissecticum'. Our Acer 'orange dream' is going strong after five years, still quite small though.

I had four Acers at the beginning of the Bjs. I'm not entirely sure why, but I've lost 3 and the fourth is just hanging on in there. I think yours are all gorgeous and I'm green with envy.
