Look what I spotted on the bee box earlier.

The butterflies are few and far between but there are more bumblebees this year. They are all very skittish though and fly off very quickly.

We wondered if the plants aren't producing so much nectar for them. We haven't had so many greenfly and the wasps seem to be visiting the flowers more, they usually rely on more greenfly for the sweetness to take back for their young. Just a thought. Either that or because there haven't been so many insects, the birds are eating more of the bigger insects. We've seen Sparrows eating bumble bees. As I said these are just my thoughts.

I don't think building on our green belts helps as I 've said before then altering roads and lanes for the amount of traffic but looking back on news of our butterflies it said the woodlands are being neglected and being distroyed intense farming then in another I read this from a reply.
The decrease in butterfly numbers is due to a deliberate chemical attack on pollinating insects designed to disrupt our agricultural production and force us to import more food.

I can well believe this as when reading another part a man stated in 2005 that a few years before he always had to buy bug wipes for his window screen when traveling in his car now his window screen is more or less clear this bought back my memories in the mid 70s when I use to travel a lot with my ex husband in fact I mentioned this to my grandson asking does his window screen get littered with bugs and insects weeks ago like his grand dads use to driving to Gloucester and Wales and North when he my grand son recently past few years has to drive each month up to Chester his window screen was always clear he said.

That's certainly food for thought 3pence!! we live in peculiar times!

I have nt seen many varieties of butterfles it many by me this year like I normally do Dottydaisy as they are building houses every where here even on all our greenbelts and I live right next to a nature reserve. Every little green bit between and around houses they even want to build houses by tearing down a wood here we have a lot of the London people here as it's only 1 hour travel to London from here but mostly Africans Muslims and Polish which have over taken our city and the Chinese as they have turned our city into a University city we have also have Warwick University which is in our city which a lot don't realise.

Green belt should be green belt!! times have certainly changed and not for the better!!

This is what one of our other villages are fighting as they have started on theirs I live in a village to since late 1970s they have built 12 large estates in the village they want to get rid of all Englands villages I was told .

We have a main country Rd where the rich live who own our business here its known as millionaires road they want to build more houses on their green belt so most have sold up and gone and took their business out of the city .

Now if there is an acciedent of the M6 the whole city becomes grid locked. What is worse they are building vasts of houses in the next towns Nuneaton and Bedworth on their green belt also they are building a new railway and new town from Coventry to Birmingham on the Meriden gap all green belt land where my sister lives Berkewell Hall which is a very old village this will devalue her house greatly.

It's not helping the environment or the wildlife that uses it. Also the water has to go somewhere from all the building area when it rains....I admit that people have to live somewhere but they should be building small homes for ordinary people to afford....and not so many all in one place. Planning seems to have gone out of the window. Schools, Doctor's surgeries, hospitals all have to take the strain of extra people too.

To me its all about greed our small islands cope with out building so many houses and damaging their habitate or their historic building being sacrificed for housing why cant we at the same time we are loosing our identity of who we are.

Hi Thrupennybit, there are so many people on the planet now, who want somewhere to live, and that costs the planet....pollution and damage to the environment. I personally think it's changing our weather too. The airflows are changing, weather is becoming more violent and in the end it will be the planet who wins. Leaders of countries come and go, Corruption, power, and greed, only leads to devastation, and innocents suffer. Will mankind ever learn from the past? I doubt it. I will shut up now.

Yes of course building s especially high rise makes the weather worse building houses on flood plains and the more tarmac and concrete causes floods building on the sea to explains a lot. I was reading I think it was last year for the first time ever the wind blue in the opposite direction around the world now its returned to normal. With the amount of people here and buildings which half we dont need 9and roads being built I am awaiting for the UK to sink as its only a floating island sitting on a frogs back as they say. .
