This might be the only one being grow outdoors in the bay area. I ordered it last month..and its been acclimating to lower humidity and lots of sun. Right now,it looks like Pampas grass..but look photos of Pandanus utilis and it will change as it grows.
VERY sharp edged leaves..will razor cut you. Plus- the dried leaves? They tend to stick to you!. Like its a jumping cactus.

I think its going to do well. Potted forever. If I have to cover this winter I will. Or porch it in mid December..back to all day sun in late Jan.

Some Pandanus are too tropical- I had a variegated type die on me. But I see this Pandanus growing near the beach in La Jolla. That tells me it can take lower summer temps. I know it will grow in summer here.
Our deepest cold- below 40's..starts in mid December, ends its run in mid January. Always that period is the difference on what can be grown here. If its good by the 3rd week of January? I made it.

There's several species which grow at the San Diego Zoo. I know Panadanus utilis is one. I've posted several on GoY in the past.
