This grows to be a big tree. It's the largest Aloe in the world. It potential height is 60 ft. Although, 30 to 40 ft is more what their max height is here in San Diego.
Here's a larger one here in San Diego.

Luckily, it can be kept much smaller.

That's good to know do they cut the roots like a bonsai.?
22 Aug, 2017
I would guess it would tolerate its roots being cut. It's commonly grown from larger cuttings.

It would need to be in a pot to cut the roots unless you got a professional in.
So it s like having a big tree immediately then.

I think those are A. tongaensis Andy. Smaller, more compact. I have one. Mine is getting too much shade (as usual with my yards) and is more open...but IF it was in full sun it would look like that.
They are popular down there because they top out at 20'. Manageable.
I was in Irvington. My car thermo said 81f. I got home and it was 72f. Huge difference. My sister lived out there..I remember thinking how Warm Springs lived up to its name,as it has much warmer spring days at the least.
Oh well.. I have to just try harder.

I'll have to see them when they flower. They are pretty compact for a A. barberae.
Yes, some say the Mission San Jose, Warm Spring to eastern San Jose Hills are the mildest subtropical areas of the SF Bay Area. They receive a lot of the heat from the San Clara Valley and are mostly frost-free in most years. A good combination for subtropical plants, trees.

Mine is like on the left...but not quite those large leaves. They have reduced a bit.

I can't wait until these flower. I would guess in November they should start flowering.
