Bought this at Kew Gardens yesterday, thought it unusual. Unfortunately no instructions how to care for it.

The wild ones (notthe cristate form obviously!) grow here in shade under trees but not right up against them. It looks juicy enough for a salad! Its Asplenium scolopodendron cristata.

Thanks stera, and for the info, I looked it up this morning, think I'll probably keep it indoors, to be on the safe side.

I wouldn't do that unless you have somewhere cool and shady. Its hardy and I don't think it would like heated conditions at all.. Would be interested to see what you read that made you think of keeping it indoors?

I googled it, and thought Asplenium Nidus looked the most like it, and that could be grown indoors, I didn't realise that they were so hardy, so may now plant outdoors. I have just looked again, and feel that Asplenium Antiquum "Leslie" is exactly like it.

Strange if it wasn't properly labelled if you got it from Kew.
Antiquum is certainly not hardy.

I read a book recently written 80 + years ago by a plantsman and he was complaining then Kews plants were either wrongly named or no name at all, seems not much has changed.
A few of years ago I bought several several plants from wisley including a dwarf pink Pampas grass that took until last year to flower, pink it is not dwarf it is not.

There is a label on the pot that says it was bought from Kew, but no label in the pot with instructions how to care for it. I was attracted to it, so bought it anyway. It has two chances.

It does look healthy. I dont think its the same as my hardy one, which is the one Stera named above. It looks like it may be tender to me...but only guessing. I'm no fern expert!

Neither do I now Karen. I knew nothing about tender ones in the same family.
