Pico Piquinho x Sebastian the Crab

Pico Piquinho x Sebastian the Crab

Sebastian the Crab bloomed a little, late last year, and I crossed it to my Pico Piquinho; and this is the result, a double, first year bloom.

The bud count on this is 9, which is very good for a first year seedling. Should be even more next year.

I would say very good I only had 4 on my young ones.

I have seen on the AHS site registered ones with only 5 buds. I try for 15+, 20 is very good, and more is even better.

Not many then for registered ones I had an orange 20 years ago one which my son it now that has about 20 flowers on or more its a big clump now we localky call it the Coventry Lily lol. .

DIPs are the prolific ones. They regularly get 30-40 flowers. The TETs are less prolific. Pico Piquinho, the pod parent has 35. But that is after several years of development. The flower here is blooming for the first time, so its real bud count is unknown.

Thank you for explaining Wylie do the TETs produce better prettier in colours on the flowers than the DIPs .
Well to me its done really well for first time of flowering I hope it produces what you want its a lovely double.

If DIPs or TETs are better is a matter of personal preference. Some people do only one or the other, others, both.
I have had a second flower open on this, and it was also a double, so things are looking good for it.
