Brilliant captured is it lovely was it resting on one leg with the other tucked under up like birds do.

I watched him/her for quite a while, 3d. I even watched him as he tried to eat a frog with only one talon to hold the frog and balance himself and he was definitely struggling. Even at a time when you think he would try to use his other foot he never put it down. same when he preened.

They must be facinating to watch them Lori they have great strength in their talons strange it did nt use its other talon when trying to eat the frog.

I think he may have taken some birdshot...or got caught in a leghold trap... or perhaps was hit by a large vehicle in any case it appears that he no longer has the use of it.

Thats such a shame Lori hope it does. t affect its survival.

I'll be honest, 3d. I'm concerned for it. I saw him yesterday on our way to town...about 5 miles from our house down near the Madawaska River. The cold weather is coming and he needs to move south... I just hope he can get enough food to sustain him.

I hope he can to Lori as ling as he can fly ok I think he stands a chace hopefully shame a vet cant help him.

not many vets around here will help "wild" animals. There are people who have "rescue" facilities for many wild critters ..from bears, deer and foxes to raccoons and even skunks...
I was thinking that perhaps the hawk has been released from one of those. I guess I'll never really know for sure.

Lets hope a recue place finds it hopefully No I doubt if you will ever know for sure Lori if it did come from a rescue place.
