Lol! It does have huge aerial roots. It can become a pretty big tree. This tree is most likely 30 to 35 ft tall.

It remonds me of the Banyan tree with its roots . As tall as my house then .

Yes, similar; however, the roots on the banyan tree are so much larger.

These trees are pretty old. I remember them back in the early 80's.

Yes the Banyan roots are larger.

lol your making your self sound old saying that Andy I wonder actually how old they are would be interesting to know.

Yes, these trees were big even back in the early to mid-80's. Not sure how long these trees have been there. They do take a long time to get so large, though.

They must be around 100 years old then if not more.

No, highly unlikely that old. They could have been planted in the late 60's or early 70's. I know there's a massive, gorgeous Ficus mysorensis (Mysore Fig Tree) at the gardens. It must be 50 years old. It's the largest one I've ever seen.

I've looked on the internet, the closest I've come to an age was a guy who started his garden 25 years ago in San Diego and he had two Pandanus that were something like the one in Andys photo. No mention on what size they were when he planted them.
Fantastically showy plants. Its wonder they are not planted more often in soucal.

I would be curious to know how old these Hala trees are. I do know of taller ones in San Diego. They not uncommon, however, not really common, either.

Not sure why they are not planted more here, also.

My potted one is getting established. I see less floppiness to it. Still hasn't sent out a new flush of leaves..that's either soon or next spring. But,its bulkier a bit.

I'll be interested how well it does through winter.
