I love fuchsias but don't seem to have much luck with them. Last year I bought one, planted in a pot but lost it over winter. So I decided to try again. Bought this for only a £1 at the supermarket back in early spring. Re potted it and had it in the conservatory. We went out one day and the conservatory over heated and most of the leaves burnt :-(. Had to cut most of them off, soaked it for a couple of days and crossed my fingers. Finally planted it in the ground and the poor thing survived. Now all l have to do is get it through the winter. :-/.

Thanks Hywel, just read your blog and it was very interesting. When I planted, I had seen on net to plant it deep, just hope I did it deep enough as I don't know if I did it as deep as you do.
Waddy, I hadn't seen it before but then must admit I have no great knowledge of fuchsias. Hywel had said before that it is one he has had. I thought it was pretty and only at a £1, thought I had nothing to lose. :-).

It is quite hardy and tends to grow very bushy. Beautifully shaped flowers. I've had it for years.

Thank you Hywel, I'm just glad it survived being sun scorched. I have planted it by a hedge so hopefully that will also give it some protection over winter. As you say, looking at it now, it is fairly bushy.
Thank you Dawn :-)

Always plant hardy Fuchsias deep. In that way the lower branches will be protected and regrow next spring. Also give a good mulch.
However, most winters don't tend to kill them back much so it should be fine.
Planting near or among other shrubs also gives protection.
I wrote this blog once a few years ago. You might like to see it :-
