I thought so too! this is the first year I've had them in the garden... wonder where they came from?

They are also in my garden. I don't know if they are baby ones that will grow bigger, or just a small species.

it will very soon be quite cold here... I don't know how something that small could survive our winters.

You need crushed eggshells. Egg shells will keep the snails away. Snails are such a problem in the winter here.

I'm not too threatened, D1! I'm sure that our cold winter will prove to be deadly to the young. Not sure how I got this one. might have come in the soil of plants imported from the south or maybe it blew in on the wind. Have heard that remedy from my Mom... but she was talking about the slimy slugs... we don't usually have the shell carrying snails. The slugs have lots of predators to keep them in check. Have also heard that DE can be used.

That's great you don't have to be concerned about snails in winter. Here they're such a problem during the rainy season (or winter). There's a nice snail with a long shell that actually eats the brown African snails. The "good" snails look like a water snail.
