Pseudobombax

Wow what a lovely tree do you have photos of it in bloom and what colour are the flowers red or white.?

Never has bloomed. I was told that our winter chill prevents it. So far that's held. Maybe if it was in ground,but that's a guess.
Penny,I have seen a few tropicals that grow here fine...never flower for me or anybody. Even tree sized Schefflera arboricola the "dwarf" Sheffy can become a small tree here..wont flower. In southern cal..it does in a 8" pot. Same for the Canary Island as I've seen in photos that tree used as a small street tree.
I just got lucky that the Mango didn't fall into that category...all leaves and no fruit would not be fun.

What a shame Stan that the winter chill prevents it flowering yet reading the seed needs to be kept chiled odd I thought. I ve just read feed and water in spring but kept dry mainly other than that likes well drained soil. I also notice there is nt a tortoiseshell formed at the base as it says when in a pot it will form one perhaps a larger pot like on this link scroll down to picture where its in a pot.

Its a lovely tree even minus the flowers any way. Yes. it would be awful habing a Mango tree minus fruit .

Nice link Penny! I am torn between letting it get bigger,or holding it back. Probably wont pot up in size..and hope that the base fills the pot. Compromise as Bonsai.

It looks EXCELLENT! I have pics on GoY somewhere with flowers. The big ones at Cuyamaca College flowers here in San Diego County.

Ues a Bonsai would be great Stan .

I was told by somebody who had one in a pot that bloomed in Tarzana Ca...moved to the high desert where he had to garage it for 2 or 3 months every winter. Despite the high summer heat,it has not bloomed.
So it might need a minimum warmth in winter we just dont quite reach. So far.

You could be correct. The one at L.A. Arboretum blooms. It's a 30' or taller tree, though. I think there's photos of it flowering on the internet.
