Alternanthera 'Hoja del Oro' reminds a little of my Iresine lindenii (Blood Leaf) plants, which I have many.

Its lovely to have reds against greens they compliment each other so I see you like your reds.☺

Yes, I love red or variegated plants. This is why I have lots of Acalypha, Crotons, and Iresine.

I remember when a Alternanthera was sold as an aquatic plant. I think some are. Or seasonally in the tropics

I think it does love a lot of water. I love the leaves on this one. I hope it grows pretty full by next spring.

I am sure it will yes can see why you love the leaves they have a lovely colour. We place grit on top of our planted pots to retain moisture stop winds and heat drying the soil out.

We have to put a lot of heavy mulch and then, it does always keep it moist with the very high temps we have here.

Yes anither great idea mulching especially your plants your plants being on the bigger side.

Yes, what's recommended for plants in the ground is 3 to 5 ft of mulch here in the South-West, believe-it-or-not. It's the only way it keeps the plants moist. The soil here gets hard like concrete.

Wow thats a lot if mulch but understandable with your heat there. I can imagine your earth is like concrete Andy I know had mine gets if there is nt a lot of rain you could nt even penetrate the earth with a fork goodness how you manage when you want to move a plant.

It's not easy to dig a hole or move a plant. If the area is water well over a few days it'll get soft, though.

Yes, we do need a lot of rain. LOL! It's difficult to think of rain when it's roasting here! UGH! It was in the low 100's today. Tomorrow is suppose to be hotter! We did break some heat records today...and they are very high for this time of year. Tomorrow more high-temp records will most likely be broken.

Yes, it's not suppose to be quite as hot tomorrow...maybe low 90's (34ºC) instead of the 105ºF (40ºC) weather.

If that was me I would be dreaming of rain let alone think.

Yes, definitely better. San Diego Bay water temperature is 71ºF (22ºC), so the air temp can't get to cool here. It will stay in the 73ºF (23ºC) range all week here. It's below normal by 6 or 8 degrees. However, it's fine with me...I'm so tired of hot weather!

Definitely! LOL! It's been really cool here the last few days...the highs only in the low 70's (22ºC)...which is normal for January. I'm not complaining, though. :>))
