No. They are in that "cool but not cold" category. When they do get hit with frost here? It can take up to 5 years to grow out of it. Slow grower.

Thank you Stan I thought not.

Wow that is slow.

It's a beautiful dwarf! It actually can grow pretty fast up there. Kentia palms must have tons of water with lots of fertilizer and it'll grow very fast. Does it experience some cold-damage every 10 years, there?

This one has slight frost damage in 2007. Since then none. The big backyard plant was badly frosted in 2012. Thats why I told Penny it took years for it to replace all the dead fronds.
Same little plot of land.100% opposite results. My theory Andy is-- the big Howea's fronds are over the roof, the roof just got very supercold damaging the fronds.
The small one I planted in its pot years ago. A mistake based on "new evidence" that palms grow faster that way.
A couple of years ago I tried to cut away the pot..but not much can be done without cutting into the palm roots

I don't remember 2012 being an exceptionally cold winter up there. I know it was a very warm winter here. I think I remember now you posted some pics of the frost damage on your taller Howea.

I do like the dwarfish look of this Howea. It's perfect for the front of your house.

Yeah,in January 2012 we had one 32f..and dew points, clear skys..it was a freak freeze not predicted. Its what nearly killed that Mango.
It really came out of nowhere..I never thought I needed to cover because I clearly remember they said 38f would be the low..and it dropped like a rock that night.
Killed my Aloe dorothea as I recall.

We had a cold spell in 2014..but I covered the mango then.

Since then..just the combo of wet and cold got plants that had lived through colder temps..Poincaina,Croton.

I think I remember you posted the information on the January 2012 freeze. I think I remember you posted the damage on your large Howea, also,

It's definitely worth covering up the more tender plants when it gets cold there. One night can set you back a few years. Even if there's hint of a bad frost it worth covering up the plants.

On a different note. I think I noticed a Manila mango on my way to work with flowers. I definitely need to check it out. Maybe I was just seeing things. LOL! :>))

The Manila mango is flushing grow, not flowering. My eyes need to be checked. LOL!
