I think the birds are having a hard time with foraging for food and water ... all my bird baths were frozen solid yesterday.

Hi Shirley I've been trying to keep the water flowing in our bird baths.

I don't know how the birds keep going in such low temperatures. Amazing.

Indeed ... they do seem to adapt very well to the weather changes.

There is a big laurel mingled with a holly and birds gather in this shelter and gossip noisily next to our side entrance. I often wonder what they are going on about....like, lets migrate.....its too blooming chilly here. When I go in the garden it all goes quiet for a moment, then they start up again.

Hi Dorjac, there are a group of Sparrows just across the road living in the Hawthorn hedge, and they are always chatting away.

We don't buy special bird feed any more, but they have the crusts of my homemade brown bread and various seeds and apples, and a plentiful amount of fresh water, watching them bathe in the birdbath in front of the conservatory is pure joy, they even line up and go in two at a time! just wish I could get some decent photographs.....

This is one of about forty Starlings. At the beginning of the year there was one of the flock who had a bad leg, but now the leg isn't there anymore and he's surviving with the rest.
