Hi Sterra, we always get a pair of Pied Wagtails when the weather is colder and I leave some mealworms out for them, but this is the first Yellow Wagtail that we've had in the garden up here.

We get the pied wagtail here too - they are always so busy - usually several of them at a time

The Wagtails only visit us for the winter months Hb. I said to Gerry yesterday, "How do they cope with having a permanent wag in the tail. I wonder why their tails do that."

I saw a pied one on the footpath of a very busy town road near us. It took off and nearly flew into a bus. Then he landed and scuttled around like a tiny road runner. Gee used used to have quite a tame one visit her garden. The river is near, they like to be near shallow streams. I'm not sure if they are different from dippers.

We have the River Derwent that runs along near to us just down the hill.
