This is row of Hong Kong Orchid tree flowering by the lawn bowling area in Balboa Park. They are very common here and line streets throughout San Diego, CA. The very sweetly fragrant flower are the biggest of any Bauhinia and bloom in winter. Photo taken in Balboa Park on Jan. 1, 2018.

Yes, it's a very widely planted tree because of its drought tolerance.

You would do the more of the same drought tolerant trees knowing the droughts you have there.
