Sounds lovely, we get hares in the fields around here.

Looks like an early riser from hibernation. I hope the return of the cold weather doesn't shock him too much. I also saw the feature on Countryfile last night. So sad to think we've lost so many of these useful, cute creatures.
Wasn't it a shame the fog was so awful on Marsden Moor, Sandra? It's such a beautiful place when the sun shines.

The hedgehog came out in the snow so I went out to it and gave it some food and it ate heartily.

They are becoming rare. People need to make a small hole between gardens for them as they need a lot of space.

I received an email the other day to sign a petition on 38degrees at present how the government have allowed the American hedgehog trap to be sold in this country so we ll be seeing less of them Lindak .

That is a disgrace, if it's true, Thrupennybit.

A very rare sight here, due to too many predators, unfortunately!!

The main predator is the badger DD.but everything has to eat something to survive. If people made holes in their fences to let the little creatures through it would help. Hedgehogs do a lot of good work by eating slugs and snails.

They certainly do.......beautiful creatures...

So pleased you still have a hedgehog in your garden still Lindak. I never realised they would get so rare as they are now.We used to have even baby ones and our garden is 40 feet by 50 feet. The boundaries were porous then to 3 or 4 good sized gardens. Not so now.

They are prone to disease etc...think it's lungworm but not 100% sure, and of course ticks.

He looks to be a baby too, unless it is a small female. The males are quite a bit larger than the girls, as they were always tussling and circling in our garden.

Small female hedgehog, Dorjac, there is a large male about too. They do grunt and go round in circles don't they.

Ah,bless him ..I miss seeing them in my garden here..There was a feature on Countryfile about them last night, also one about the Pennines where we are,and the village of Marsden, which is one of our local villages..just a pity it was thick fog when they were trying to film the Hares on the moors, but still nice to see some of our favourite places :o)
