I believe they like to be pot bound, not being repotted until they break the pot. That's a bit drastic though.

I get mine into bloom the same way as I get Cymbidiums to bloom - a cold spell.

Plants in our conservatory get a cool spell in the winter, whether they want one or not. And my Strelitzia is flowering now.

Yay - result with the BoP!

My BoP flowers each year, its huge! Apparently there is a dwarf BoP on the market, but I don't think they were available when I got mine years ago.

Mine got far too big and I gave it away. I should have split it as I grew it from seed.
