Sweet Chestnut Tree

Oooh...lots of nuts on them too!

We used to collect the sweet chestnuts with mum when we were 8-12. Sometimes walked some distance to the best trees. Sometimes cycled. The really old ones might have a huge twisted trunks with deep lines top to bottom. Roasted them on the kettle and pan support on the range fire in the living room. They tasted lovely much nicer than the bought ones now.
