I took the photo early this morning with excitement, to be honest the bud was very crisp like it wouldn't form so I was really pleased to see it flowering.

Yes I noticed some of the papery spathe were quite crisp this year, maybe the frosts? After the flower finishes I break off the dead flowerhead ( minding there not another flower bud hidding in there). Sometimes they get wet before opening fully and greenfly lurks in there and I find sparrows break the stem trying to get at the insects.

I think the frost got to mine but at least it flowered, thanks I will gently dead head it :). Cheeky sparrows, the wildlife lead you a right dance Siris.

Looking at your pic, Dawn, there is another in the terminal spathe, whether it comes to any thing if you say it was frosted? However lower down that stem there is another bud. Thanks for posting.

Ah, ha, another 1/2 a day, and it would have been fully open. Thank you for showing.
