Maple leaf Acer

Maple leaf Acer (Acer palmatum (Japanese maple))

The main branches of this acer reverted to plain green over the last few years. We noticed this new branch low down on the trunk this spring so we cut the trunk down to just beneath the first green branch and this new variegated one is growing really well.

Lovely HB. You did well there. I prune my acers back in the winter and cut any dead wood off. If they get too overgrown in the summer I also give them a light haircut. Whether this is right or not I do it to keep the trees small.
