Thank you, yes there is lots of colour now, and more every day. My hostas are excelling.

Cinders I envy you being able to keep the Hostas that near the ground what have you done with the slugs ,?

Believe me Brian, it is a battle, and have to admit to using the “bait”. When they start to grow leaves I put it around the rim of each pot. I also do a daily check. Fortunately this year it wasn’t that wet when they started growing so slugs and snails were easier to control, but I think they are starting to win the battle now !

I was watching a video on you tube the other day an American said we dont crush our egg shells fine enough for them to work to prevent slugs and snail . I have found one of mine untouched in a pot on gravel the other is on gravel but near a shrub so I sat and watched they climb on tge shrub and tgen drop on the Hosta thats been nibbled. A lot are saying on the net put your hostas in copper pots look on car boots for old coal skuttles those that have used this method dont get any slugs or snails

That’s a good idea 3D, the copper, but not easy to find these days I should think. They are crafty little things aren’t they.

They certainly are Cinders I get loads of snails and slugs. I recently found an old copper coal bucket to out my house plant in at the Salvation Army second hand shop paid £2.50p for it so they are still about. I would think I would get more for it weighing it in as scrap lol.

Cinders You can buy copper strip in various widths I have a roll 1.1/4 wide and have cut down several 7in black plastic pots so that I am left with the rim about 4in wide then stuck the copper to the to the edge folding about 1/2 inch over the top on to the inside it sticks well, I then pressed the pot rim about 2 inches down into the soil leaving the copper standing proud of the soil up to now alright.these are around newly planted Delphiniums.

Watching gardeners world to night a man had lots of Hostas in his garden not a hole in any of them he surrounds with gravel and said an old lady years ago told him to boil garlic and spraying the leaves with the liquid he claims he never has a problem with slugs or snails.

That’s a good idea Brian, will see if I can get hold of some, I don’t like using the bait really.

Like Brian,I have used the copper tape,Cinders,but around a couple of pots,about halfway up....It really did work,as I had no damage at all ,so can highly recommend it..this was two years ago,and it's still working..A good tip about the plant pots rims though..I got mine from one of the £ shops :o)

Good idea,Sylvia..I don't buy many slug/snail loving plants now,so haven't needed to put any on other pots..but,it's there just in case :o)

Bloomer does not matter what plant I buy they love them all.will post a pic of the pot with copper band now while I remember it
