FREMONT MANGO- on Delonix's old street. (Mangifera indica (Mango))

I was by there and took a look..LOADED with flowers. The owners put a nice new fence in. Right next door? A home that sold for $1,000,000 CASH ( 200g over asking price)..was knocked down. Yes,this has become a highly desirable area.
I wish they would remove the Liquidamber!

Wow! It's getting very large. It should bear a lot of fruit this year.

It has a good size trunk on it too. The home right next door was knocked down already and an old bobcat was parked on it. They might have did it themselves!

That tree could use some fertilizer,but its been so cool I think thats more the temperatures. I poured some compost that had manure mixed in under mine..helped.

It looks like it does. It'll be nice to see how many mangoes it produces this year.

Mango trees don't like a lot of nitrogen. It most likely needs some ironite and a little compost around the top of the soil.

I don't think the Liquidamber should be cut down. It's protecting the mango tree flowers from the prevailing westerly winds.

Its an inspiration. I did count 18 bloom spikes on my Mango. So,if I get one per spike..good. If I get an average of two? THAT would be a jump. Every year its just alive I give thanks..ha.

I can only imagine how big the Manila mango would be that I planted 23 years ago at Bruce Dr. I'm guessing 20 - 25' tall (maybe?).

This tree looks like it's pushing 15' and it was planted around 2012, right?

I think you'll get a good fruit set on your tree. I noticed here once the trees grow to 8' or so and they branch out a bit, mango trees produces a lot of fruit.

Its had an incredible growth rate for sure Andy. You google the street on maps and go back to 2011 or 2012 and its just a 4' stick of a plant. In 6 years its really grown at a near Florida or soucal rate. Its done it too,while having fruit. I noticed it took 3 or 4 years for mine to break out of the thin type of branches they have as young container plants and grow the real tree like branches. Now,I'm waiting for mine to get to the size it can fruit all it wants and still have plenty of growth per year. I think,Im on the edge of that phase.

The heat in that neighborhood, along with it being so close to the house is what gives it good growth.

I think as they grow bigger they grow a little faster, also.

Your tree is at the size where it should grow much faster on the on the new flushes. It's so exciting to see mango trees in the SF Bay Area growing so well and especially producing fruit.

I'm guessing this tree is a Manila mango tree. The tree I grew in this neighborhood was a Manila, also. It's a very good mango, especially when grown in the garden.

My brother in law- who lives in Miami kind of laughed at my Mango. He wondered if the branches were going to break with the fruits-ha! I know that compared to his climate anything tropical here is puny. He did love the dry plants. No Tree Aloes or Euphorbia's in south Florida. Same for the old man cactus.My sister in law loves that there were no 90f temps or humidity. I told her we only get humidity when we take a shower. Never gets humid here in summer.
I think that once a Mango tree gets to a certain size in the bay area..it can take normal or even below normal winters from then on. Just protect in a once a century( or never I hope) or so deep freeze.

81f here today..but according to WU its 91f in Mission San Jose and 84 in Sundale and the rest of Fremont. 91f might be a bit high..but I was in Fremont today and could feel the difference.
I'm so borderline on the warmth for Mangoes.

Yes, mango trees are pretty tough once they get to a larger size. However, a big freeze can cause them a lot of damage, just look at the damage from the horrible freeze in central Florida and even parts of southern Florida this past year. Some their mango trees were completely wiped out! Yikes.

South of Fremont temps tend to be much hotter. This is what the tropicals need to get them growing.

Times change. It used to be only the north bay area gardeners would post on the plant boards,and any plant that wanted warm summers they said "Cant be grown here"..Also "Jacaranda dont flower well,Podcarpus never set seed, Bizmarkia wont grow here,Pachypodiums wont grow..on and on I was told.
They all grow and flower.
The new posts are from south bay people and they got many things going I wish I could see..like Royal palms and one guy says he has Delonix in Livermore 10' tall or more now. I saw that photo of it over fence tall. Papaya.
Some of those plants can be centerpieces.
So far June for me has been..average. Only a pair of days that were hot...everything else 70's.
I was told that ocean waters here Andy are still at 52f bone chilling temps. In the drought they were at 62f and up. I miss those days!..ha.

There's definitely a lot more tropicals which can grow in the Bay Area. The temps can get pretty darn hot during summer and fall.

I have seen a pics a long time ago of the Delonix regia growing in Livermore. I was shocked! Considering it gets very cold out in Livermore. It much be really protected in winter. The heat in summer is perfect for it, though.

The last two day here have been a little cooler, it was pretty hot most of last week, though. The Ocean Temp is finally on the rise, mostly upper 60's and San Diego Bay is holding at 72 degrees. The last few years SD Bay water has had temps in the upper 70's and even low 80's during summer.

I know Andy when I zoom in on that Mango..every leaf is perfect. Not a single leaf has a mark on it. Like I said "James in Fremont"..in the lowlands,Mango from the closeup is more..realistic-lol. Some singed leafs. But he did say in two years it grew to be 8' from the usual 2' size the HD's and Reagan's nursery size sell.
Once they flower fruit..that slows down he will find I'm sure.
Unless he moves to Mission San Jose. Even seeing that huge cactus, not sure if its Trichocereus of Pachycereus,and if its Pachycereus? more proof that summers there are really make a difference warm. I cant get mine to break the inches a year growth.

Like I say: the larger the mango tree, the hardier the tree. :>))

From: 2 to 8 ft of growth in two years is a lot of growth! Especially for the SF Bay Area.

I've seen the grove of mango trees I pass on the way to work grow: from 4 or 5 ft saplings to: 8 or 9 + tall trees within one year! They were only planted spring of 2017! The larger one is full of mangoes! Unbelievable!

I've gotten a small flush from the larger Mango..nothing much to brag about. I'm hoping to get one larger flush this year..but with all the fruit on it,I dont know if the tree is up to that.
The best growth I ever got- over 2' in one year,was the year it did not flower- 2016. That was a great year for adding size all over the plant.
One branch is bent to horizontal already and one premie 1" Mango fruit has color..soon to fall off no doubt.

When the really hot weather comes it will push new growth.

I've seen a few flushes of growth on the mango tree here...most were in Dec, Jan and early February because of the very hot, dry weather during those months.

My little mango sapling is wanting to push new growth. I don't think it has enough roots to support the new growth, though. It's only had one flush of growth since I planted it on March 1 of this year.

87f today..hotter manana. I've been working on a bedroom and flooring paint and all that. So the plants are getting a little status quo...water and thats it. Getting older is one thing at a time!

Its going to be ferocious here Andy..hot early and the sun was like a laser as I watered.
Manila Mango looks good. Champagne (Autalfo)looks 100% better then ever. Its added a foot this year and I'm sure the next flush will really make it look like something.
Old,old,Dioon edule in pot is flushing..but only 4 measly fronds. Not sure what the problem is. Its fronts the Mango so is in a hot spot that gets watered.

Glad to hear all your plants are growing well in the hot weather. All it takes is a few hot days to get everything growing very well.

I can't believe the mango tree around the corner from me. It's so loaded with mangoes I think the tree is going to topple! Some of the mangoes are about the size of a peach. I still can't believe the owner would let the tree get so bogged-down with fruit. I'm going to try to take another "good" pic this time of the tree.

94f at my house.Officially it was 93f at HAYX. Mangoes loved it I'm sure. With plenty of water its like you could see the little mango fruit double in size over the last few days. It tells me whats the ideal for it. I wish we were more warmish then coolish.
SF? 75f was the high.

That's the kind of heat mango trees love! It's been pretty cool here. Today was nice and sunny, tomorrow much warmer, though.
