The little paintings in place making use of my giant bamboo to train a new clematis (Princess Diana)the copper strips at the base of the delphiniums working well up to now

Not quite that wide 2 inch but 3/4 inch of it is wrapped around the top edge.

Lovely new area nicely designed Brian have you laminated those paintings. Like your idea training the Clematis. I find slugs or snails don't bother Delphiniums when grown providing they are healthy it's mainly when they are just re sprouting they will have them. I have the same dark blue one as you have there Brian I ve never protected it and comes back every year even though its in a part of my garden where I get loads of snails.

the paintings I did are on Aluminium plates and finished with boat Varnish ,Wilkos is best for that.

Thank you Brian great idea painting on Aluminium plates yes same place I bought my yatch varnish was bought to cover both my bedroom floors hand sanded dyed and varnished saved buying carpets. when I first moved here 20 years ago so yes that will protect them .

Brian I watched a scientific trial programme about copper strips protecting plants there wasn't any evidence that it worked in fact when they placed copper strips in front of the slugs /snails they crawled straight over it , I hope yours work they are glorious Delphiniums ...

I have put some around the large Echium......and it seems to be working at the moment!!

Those copper strips are quite tall aren't they? By that I mean a ring of about 3".
