If i can't grow herbs in dappled shade i'd like to grow hostas there i love their scent have you any in the sun? ..is this one in the sun? are it's flowers white? i have a problem spot that gets light shade in the am, blazing hot sun from noon to about 3pm, then solid shade..

You should be able to grow hosta in the spot you describe as long a you keep them well watered until they settle in. I have tiny Bressingham Blue plants that came from seed. the BB is growing just outside the drip zone of a Black Walnut, and it prefers shade but gets afternoon sun here. It's healthy and it's huge though. leaves are bluish, ruffled and dinner-plate size. This little beauty was a gift from my cousin. it wasn't doing well on her dry, sandy hillside but seems to enjoy the cool moist soil of the iris bed. It took 3 yrs for it to reach this size from a tiny clump.
