Base of Wisteria

Have just noticed the the wisteria I thought had been killed off, has in fact, become engulfed by the Clematis virginica, but it's there! I've planted it on an obelisk. I wanted to plant it beside the house but was advised not to. I already have grapes, Virginia Creeper, and Trumpet Vine growing up the north facing wall but I'm thinking I should move the Wisteria. Good luck with yours...is it Chinese or Japanese?
