I've discovered he is the President of the Royal Horticultural Society
and
Fuchsia magellanica 'Lady Bacon' was apparently discovered in Chile by Lady Bacon. Priscilla Dora Ponsonby (1913-2000) was an energetic plantswoman who collected many rare species from around the world.
