These are my Thai Dwarf, Red Caribbean and Maradol papaya seedlings. They are loving the very hot and humid conditions over the last month. Photo taken July 28, 2018.

LOL! It'll take a year in the ground before they produce fruit.

They usually grow very well in the ground. I have pretty bad luck with them in pots, though. I see people growing very large plants in pot with fruit...not sure why mine die in big pots
I like sharing plants with friends and family.

To me they are not what I call big pots lol
Perhaps you should ask the people who seem to be successful no harm in asking. I ve known myself knock on doors to ask people I ve never met .
Yes its enjoyable sharing especially if tgey are people you know you then can see how those plants are doing.

The bigger pots are 3 gallons. Papayas have a lot of problems in large pots (for me, anyway). They can rot very easily in large pots...they prefer smaller pots. I've actually had better luck with bigger plants in very small liners...which seems very strange.

They are big then. Yes if you plant into to bigger pots disease sets in. I was told to plant one size up pot each time the plant grows bigger to prevent disease.

Yes, papayas definitely don't like too big of a pot. They cannot tolerate wet soil, they get a lot of root problems.
