Tobacco... haven't grown it in years...found some seeds I'd saved and planted them this spring...thought that they were not viable as I didn't see this one developing... lovely scented flowers. Looks like I should have taken the pic earlier in the day...Pretty trumpets!

I first saw these plants 40 yrs ago planted in a large concrete soil bunker at the Toronto Zoo, North America Pavillion. They were about 6 ft. tall and all in bloom it was very striking. I promptly bought seed and grew them in nearly every garden I've had since. Lost track of them after the move to this garden.
Found the packet last fall when cleaning out an old seed briefcase! I'm back on track with N. alata!

I've never seen them get to 6 ft ! It must be too wet here for them.
I'm glad you've been able to grow them again.

It was part of an idea to grow mostly native plants in the garden. Saving any exotics as houseplants.
Just read an interesting book review of "A New Garden Ethic" ~ By Benjamin Vogt. It seems to address the concerns I've had about selecting plants vs. finding them in the wild and importing them to my garden.
