Put up shelves across South facing window to grow specialist chillies.

What will you do when they grow big?

Thanks Thorney, it hasn't guaranteed success but I'll take 80 per cent. It's stuff you can't buy in shops.
Nice mild chillies but not meant for our climate...

Hi Stera, there's 15 inches between each shelf. Chilli plants, & I admit these are more exotic than I've previously grown, once healthily established can be pruned.
I've already pinched tips on the taller ones & seen lower sideshoots develop.
But to be totally honest, I don't know. I'll try to train them to be bushy but at the moment I'm just trying to nurse them to a woody stage when I know they'll survive in the long term.
Ya live & learn?

How are the Chillies now Darren?

Bloody awful K... I just had one infestation after another until I started completely losing plants. I've been moving them outdoors in the day which is helping some but finishing off the weakest. There's still the odd sign of red spider mite though.
One has a chilli on but I'm pinching out all the flower buds so they can concentrate on growing stronger.
All the forecasts are agreeing that from midweek the temperatures are going to rise day & night here so once I've got the toms into their grow bags I'm going to de-pot them, rinse the roots & pot on into larger containers with fresh, gritty compost. It's been fairly frustrating & I don't have the time or space to keep trying to nurse them so it will be kill or cure from now. I guess the upside is that the strongest ones should provide seed fairly quickly

What else?
See who else is growing Capsicum frutescens (Chilli).
See who else has plants in genus Capsicum.
