I thought it might turn red but it's been there several weeks and is still the same colour.
I think it's a hybrid so the seeds won't germinate.

Thank you both :)
Yes it has a pink flush Thrupennybit, but only on the under side. I'm still waiting for it to become a nice bright colour lol
I've never had a berry on one of those cacti Waddy, although I've seen photos of them in books. I had a surprise to see it

Perhaps when the sun comes out it might turn red.

maybe it needs some heat to ripen? that is really amazing! I know that some plants need the seed pods to ripen on the plant for as many as nine months. (gesneriad) but was wondering if this cactus perhaps needs that amount of time for seed formation and ripening, too? This is so much fun. my epi is putting out long spikes which eventually widen into the long flat leaves... it's been poking along for years but I repotted it into cactus soil last summer and it seems to be quite happy. no sign of seed pods though! with all the designer plants around these days it's hard to tell if it will reproduce naturally, or not.

You must be doing something right Hywel.

Thank you all ...
Yes I must have done something Waddy but I don't know what lol ...
I hope your cactus will flower in the spring Lori. They are beautiful. Maybe this one will ripen better in the summer.
I have my fingers crossed too Thrupennybit x
