Corydalis henrikii - 2019 (Corydalis henrikii)

A tough and reliable little woodland bulb, this has been growing here under an apple tree for ten years now, flowering reliably in early spring every year

Are some Corydalis tougher than others Andrew?

It's a huge family and some have more exacting requirements than others. Some of the blue-flowered ones need an acid soil, and hardiness varies according to the altitude from which the plants originate.
I bought a second hand copy of "Bleeding Hearts, Corydalis, and Their Relatives" which is very comprehensive - I see there are cheap copies available on amazon at present

Thanks Andrew, I'll have a look for a book. I've read the blue are short lived. My C Beth Evans is flowering but no sign yet of Bronze Beauty

If you're happy to grow named varieties rather than species corydalis, I can recommend 'Tory MP' as a good blue-flowered one which I've had for more than ten years. I've also been impressed with 'Craigton Blue' although I've only been growing that one for four years so far

I’m happy to grow anything that will thrive in the woodland :-). Do the ones you recommend like woodland conditions?. Thanks Andrew

Yes they do. 'Tory MP' is growing near an apple tree so is tolerating fairly dry soil too

Thanks
