We have Redwoods here in Coombe Abbey where I live Stan. Capability Brown designed the gardens here. It's was built as a monestry built by monks now a hotel and a park which is open to the public free just have to pay a couple of pounds for car park which use to be free until the late 1980s. Its not far from where I live a couple of miles . Some videos and photos so you can go around it there is a boating lake and fishing and a woodland there too but not shown in these. Tell me if you like it. You ll see the moat too

Beautiful! All the Angel's Trumpets here are looking like that one with lots of growth and flowers. They're loving all the rain!

The UK tree's look to be Giant Sequoias. The fluted bases and that cypress like foliage. In that climate of no Hurricanes or tornadoes..like in California,they will grow for centuries.
I don't see many Sequoias in yards. Some,but Redwoods out number them thousands to one in gardens. Here in town Penny when you take the monorail..you see these giant and tall trees everywhere. I know my visit to soucal and Los Angeles was "Where are all the tall trees?"..lol. No Redwoods and no Blue Gum Eucalyptus everywhere like here. The bay area has just enough added rainfall..they thrive.

I found the above link Stan to which the ranger had said they were planted roughly around 1863.

That's a shame there is nt any around Soucal and Los Angeles where you visited the monorail sounds a lovely ride.

I think they had a mix of the Giant and Redwoods.
The best time here for the monorail (BART) is June. Jacaranda trees are in blue bloom and you realize we have a lot of them.

The Jacaranda tree should be starting to flower here very soon. I always look forward to their flowering.

There's a lot of Jacaranda trees in the SF Bay Area, also.

Yesterday I was on the freeway going to Fremont and was on a elevated exit..When I realize,the bay area might be unique in the world with the large- forest like numbers of tall Washingtonia palms and Redwoods dominating the skyline.
What other area combines those two in such huge numbers? Even where other climates allow it..none are Redwood loving like the bay area-ha. In Australia they plant Araucaria not Redwoods. Other Med Climates also go for pines or Araucaria. Only here,do both those species thrive together. Both naturalize too.
Just a thought.

That is very true! Enough rain for the redwoods and Washingtonias...although, Washingtonia filifera does like so much cool rains. They definitely love the long dry summers.
