Fruit on Elaeagnus

I've never before noticed flowers or fruit on my very old Elaeagnus shrub, but noticed newly developing fruit and ripe mature berries today.
I think it might be Eleagnus pungent Maculata (syn)Aureo-variegata. It is variegated, evergreen with vicious thorns.

Looking this up, it appears that several parts of this plant have useful uses. NOT that I intend to try but the fruit apparently tastes of peanut.

I am very partial to a peanut.....must have a look at ours to see if it has any of these strange fruit..

I prune mine each year, but I grow it tall to screen out behind-neighbour's car port.
